A’ja Wilson schools Paige Bueckers as the Aces demolish the Wings in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Aces are one of the hottest teams in the WNBA, as the Nevada team holds a 21-14 record, good enough for 5th team overall and third on the Western Conference.

The franchise has won seven straight games – the longest active win streak in the WNBA – and 12 of its last 15 matches, and just 1.5 games back of second place Atlanta Dream.

Las Vegas will be a dangerous team that’s ready to contend for a WNBA championship, whether they face the 2024 finalists Minnesota Lynx, the powerful Phoenix Mercury, or the offensive show in the Golden State Valkyries.

A’ja Wilson schools Paige Bueckers

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson, the current WNBA MVP, had another 30-point performance as her team got their seventh straight victory in flying past the below average Dallas Wings (9-26) 106-87 on Sunday afternoon at Arena Michelob ULTRA.

Wilson finished with 34 points and 8 rebounds, as she was constantly punishing the Wings, lead by rookie sensation Paige Bueckers. The former South Carolina standout stuck her tongue out after draining a beautiful three-pointer – imitating an iconic Michael Jordan move -, as she passed by Bueckers, reminding the newcomer who runs the league.

Last week, the WNBA announced that Wilson was the Western Conference Player of the Week, the 25th honor for the reigning league MVP and third this season, after also earning it on June 1 and July 1. Wilson now ranks No. 3 all-time for weekly conference awards, moving ahead of No. 4 Elena Delle Donne (24) and trailing Candace Parker (27) and Tina Charles (32).

The Wings struggled from long distance

The Dallas Wings struggled from three, going just 3-17, while the Aces made 18 triples and scored 23 points off 13 Dallas turnovers to pull away. Maddy Siegrist added six rebounds, two blocks and two steals, matching her career high in steals.

Rookie sensation Paige Bueckers joined Siegrist in double figures with 18 points, stretching her double-digit scoring streak to 28 games, while adding five rebounds and four assists. The Wings‘ struggles from deep continued, going 0-6 while Las Vegas knocked down 5-of-10 from three.

On the afternoon, Dallas shot 48.7 percent from the field, making 38 field goals for the second consecutive game – marking just the second time in franchise history the Wings made 38+ field goals in back-to-back contests. Dallas remains on the road and will travel to the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.
