After Quinshon Judkins and Shedeur Sanders troubling offseason, Browns are desperate for a true team leader

The Cleveland Browns are clearly desperate for a team leader. It seems the franchise hasn’t learned from past mistakes and keeps heading in the same direction year after year.

This time, Quinshon Judkins was arrested Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on misdemeanor domestic battery charges. The running back was drafted by the Browns with the 36th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.

The story is déjà vu for Cleveland. Last year, the Browns selected Michael Hall Jr. with the 54th overall pick, also out of Ohio State, only for him to be charged with domestic violence.

Neither player even stepped onto the field for a regular season game before being arrested.

Sanders speeding incident

Not much was known about Judkins before his arrest, but Shedeur Sanders was already a media magnet and fan favorite before joining the team.

It should have been clear that anything involving him, even minor infractions, would be scrutinized. Then came two speeding tickets. On June 5 in Ohio, Sanders was ticketed for driving 91 mph in a 65 mph zone in Brunswick Hills, as documented in Medina Municipal Court. On June 17, Strongsville police pulled him over for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone.

No leader in the Browns’ locker room

With all this drama, Browns veterans should be stepping up to provide leadership. However, Joe Flacco stated at the start of the offseason that he wasn’t interested in mentoring either rookie QB, Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel.

There is another veteran in the QB room, Deshaun Watson, but he’s likely to be out all season due to injury. Still, leadership concerns linger: Watson’s reputation took a hit following multiple sexual misconduct allegations in March 2021.

Then huge hope was put on Myles Garrett. With a $160 million extension in hand and a Defensive Player of the Year award on his résumé, Garrett is among the NFL’s elite. But he decided to miss the team’s OTA’s and take a trip to Japan.

Regular season has not even started and Kevin Stefanski’s team is already involved in multiple scandals. They are desperate for a true leader on that locker room.
