The Buffalo Bills have a clear mission over the final three weeks of the 2025 NFL regular season: win every game to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs-not only because of the impact of their fans, but also due to a factor that could prove decisive in their Super Bowl LX aspirations.
Freezing temperatures and snow that limits visibility are conditions Bills players are accustomed to. Finishing first in the AFC East would give Buffalo a significant weather edge, one that could further elevate the outstanding play of Josh Allen.
The Bills quarterback ranks fourth in the NFL in touchdown passes with 25 and eighth in passing yards with 3,276, numbers that reinforce head coach Sean McDermott confidence.
“I don’t do a very good job of knowing what’s going on around the league, but I can’t, in my mind, imagine anybody else has done more for their team on a more consistent basis than Josh Allen,” McDermott said. “I mean, who out there is playing better?”
Buffalo’s recent victory over the New England Patriots brought them closer to that goal, although the Bills understand they cannot rely on dramatic comebacks every week. In each of their last three games, they trailed at halftime before rallying to win-an impressive trend, but one that leaves little margin for error in december.
What do the Bills need to finish first in the AFC East?
To claim the division title, Buffalo must navigate a few scenarios, but the primary priority is simple: win as many games as possible down the stretch.
In Week 16, the Bills face the Cleveland Browns, followed by a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, and they close the regular season against the New York Jets in Week 18. Analysts believe a 2-1 finish is realistic, with Philadelphia viewed as the toughest challenge.
Meanwhile, New England still has a demanding slate, including games against the Baltimore Ravens on December 21, the Jets on December 28, and a season finale versus the Miami Dolphins on January 4. Any Patriots stumble must be capitalized on by Buffalo.
The win over New England created a legitimate opening. Patriots currently lead the AFC East at 11-3, while the Bills 10-4, but in a potential tie, the deciding factor would be conference record-and Buffalo’s week 15 victory could prove pivotal.
Buffalo doesn’t just want to reach the playoffs; the path to finishing first is clearly in front of them.
