Bam Adebayo, the NBA’s new “surreal” superstar, has gone from living in a trailer park to earning more than $135 million and scoring 83 points in a game to rewrite history.
The 6ft 9in, 28-year-old center arrived in the NBA in 2017 as the 14th overall pick (he convinced Miami in private workouts) after playing at the University of Kentucky in the NCAA.
Bam, who is named after his mother’s fondness for the Flintstones and the character Bam-Bam Rubble, has always played for the Heat (in 2020 he was re-signed for $195 million) and has career averages of 16 points and 8.9 rebounds.
But the life of the young millionaire Adebayo has not been a bed of roses.

He grew up running between trailers in South Carolina, as he himself recalled on social media in November 2020.
“My imperfect/perfect house. The green trailer that made me who I am. The sleepless nights…
“Acre Station…76 Church Lane…My imperfect/perfect home. The green trailer that made me who I am. The sleepless nights, the nights I slept well, through all the pain and hardship, as well as all the great moments we had. Thank you,” shared the man who has dethroned Kobe Bryant as the second highest scorer in a game in NBA history.
Bam Adebayo was raised by his mother after being abandoned by his father
Bam Adebayo was raised by a single mother (Marilyn Blount), his father abandoned them when he was just a few months old, in a dilapidated trailer to which they moved after the Heat star was born.
His mother raised “Bam Bam Bam” working as a cashier in a supermarket.
“To live this moment is surreal, because, like I said, to be able to do it at home, in front of my mom, in front of my people, in front of the home crowd, it’s a mark in history that will be remembered forever,” said Bam Adebayo, who has already been a three-time All-Star, after scoring 83 points.
Bam Adebayo followed his mother’s example of hard work and resilience, with hours and hours in the gym, working alone to improve his coordination, his muscles and his technique to make his basketball dreams come true.
Bam Adebayo: “I’m grateful to have A’ja Wilson in my life”
Alongside his mother, the other great pillar in Bam Adebayo’s life is his famous girlfriend A’ja Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces star who has been a four-time WNBA MVP (2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025).
“I kind of hid a little bit… I don’t know. I just got nervous,” said the three-time WNBA champion, who did not want to steal the spotlight from her boyfriend on his big night.
“I’m grateful to have her in my life,” Adebayo said of 6-foot-4 Wilson.
