Addison Barger’s tragic mistake that could cost the Blue Jays the World Series

The Blue Jays’ dream of securing their first World Series title since 1993 at home was dashed on Friday night, forcing a dramatic Game 7 just one win away. The Blue Jays’ 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Rogers Centre had a bitter protagonist: right fielder Addison Barger, whose “bad read” on the bases ended a promising ninth-inning comeback.

With the score 3-1 in favor of the Dodgers, Barger had ignited the spark of hope by leading off the ninth inning with a ground-rule double. The play instantly put runners on second and third with no outs. The available metrics showed that the Blue Jays’ win probability had skyrocketed, with George Springer waiting to bat, a perfect scenario for a historic rally, but one that ultimately failed to materialize.

Addison Barger’s costly error for the Blue Jays

Despite the fact that the outlook seemed favorable once again for the Blue Jays, the potential tie evaporated in the next inning. Andres Gimenez’s hit was toward left field. Barger, who was on second base, misjudged the trajectory of the ball, convinced it would fall for a short single, and strayed dangerously far from the base. Dodgers outfielder Enrique Hernandez made a spectacular catch and quickly threw to complete a double play on Barger, who could not get back to the base in time.

The error brought an abrupt and frustrating end to Game 6. “I was pretty surprised that he reached it,” Barger admitted after the game. “Off the bat, I thought it was going to go over the shortstop’s head… It was a bad read, really.” His error sentenced the game and returned the series to an exciting starting point.

Dodgers survive and force Game 7

The game between the Blue Jays and the Dodgers has generated a lot of excitement among MLB fans, as the Toronto team had a unique chance to win the World Series title at home, something that has not happened for 32 years, so there was a lot of excitement.

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, Game 6 was not favorable for them, as the Dodgers won 1-3 in a game that was decided in the ninth inning with a play that will go down in history, as it was almost a miracle for the Los Angeles team.

The game was so exciting that it left fans wanting more and that is exactly what they will get, as the series will be decided in game 7, where there will be no more room for error.
