Adam Schefter shuts down Maxx Crosby trade rumors to the Chicago Bears

Speculation around star players often spreads quickly in the NFL, but reporter Adam Schefter made it clear this week that one rumor involving Maxx Crosby isn’t grounded in reality. The longtime ESPN insider addressed growing chatter about the possibility of the Las Vegas Raiders trading their star defensive end to the Chicago Bears.

According to Schefter, the scenario simply doesn’t make sense financially or strategically.

“They can’t afford it,” Schefter explained when discussing the idea of the Bears acquiring Crosby.

The rumor had circulated online after fans began imagining what the Bears defense could look like with a premier pass rusher like Crosby.

With Chicago continuing to rebuild its roster, some supporters speculated that the team could pursue a major move to accelerate the process.

However, Schefter quickly dismissed that possibility. Part of the issue comes down to the financial commitment required to acquire a player of Crosby‘s caliber.

A steep asking price

The Raiders are said to be keen on collecting two first-round picks in the NFL Draft as part of the trade, and that’s a costly price.

The star edge rusher remains one of the most valuable defenders in the league, and the Raiders view Crosby as a central piece of their long-term plans.

Since entering the NFL, Crosby has developed into a dominant force on the defensive line.

His relentless motor, consistent pressure on quarterbacks, and leadership in the locker room have made Crosby one of the most respected defenders in the league. That’s precisely why the Raiders have little interest in moving him.

It comes after his trade to the Baltimore Ravens broke down, with Crosby declaring himself committed to the team after the collapse.

Even if the Bears had the financial flexibility, convincing the Raiders to part with Crosby would likely require an enormous trade package.

Why the Raiders won’t budge

Teams rarely move elite pass rushers in their prime unless a major organizational shift is underway.

For now, there’s no sign that such a change is happening in Las Vegas.

Instead, Schefter‘s comments serve as a reminder that not every viral rumor carries real weight.

While fans may enjoy imagining blockbuster trades, the reality of the NFL’s salary cap and team-building strategies often makes those scenarios far less likely.

In the case of Crosby, the message from Schefter was clear: the star defender isn’t heading to the Bears anytime soon.
