Absolute surprise with the Bears: Is it time to trust Caleb Williams’ offense in fantasy football?

After a promising start in 2024, Caleb Williams -selected #1 overall by the Chicago Bears- had an inconsistent rookie campaign, finishing as the QB16 in fantasy, with five games inside the top six at the quarterback position

His strength: zero interceptions on 354 consecutive attempts, an NFL and franchise rookie record. But the lack of touchdowns limited his performance, leaving him 22nd in points per game.

Chicago Bears offensive improvements

During the offseason, the Bears significantly strengthened their offensive unit. They hired Ben Johnson as OC, an offensive architect with a track record of improving QBs

In addition, the offensive line was strengthened with Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney and Drew Dalman, and new receivers arrived: TE Colston Loveland and WR Luther Burden III. With these changes, Pro Football Focus and ESPN project that Williams could surpass four thousand yards and 30-40 TD in 2025, as well as maintain his ability to escape on the ground.

Is Caleb Williams worth betting on in fantasy?

According to experts, everything indicates that his role will go from being “matchup-dependent” to a solid weekly option. He is currently ranked QB10-12 in draft rankings, with upside to be a top 8 QB. A post on r/Dynasty by PFF comments:

“Caleb Williams is a stud… held back by a poor head coach… now in one of the best situations a sophomore quarterback has ever had”

And legendary cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman backs him up, projecting the reduction in sacks and interceptions and a qualitative leap in his performance.

Fantasy managers’ tips

  • Draft 2025: Williams appears among the top 10-12 QBs, but his situation and improvements could justify risking a higher pick.
  • Strategy: Waiting and building the roster well can be key. You get a solid potential QB1 just at the right time.
  • Risk/reward balance: His upside is real, backed by structural changes – but beware: he will still have sophomore mistakes; immediate perfection is not expected
