Absolute surprise with Aaron Rodgers: These should be your Fantasy Football Waiver Wire targets in Week 2

Week 1 of the NFL always brings surprises, but Aaron Rodgers‘ performance was downright unexpected with his four touchdowns for Pittsburgh, spread among little-considered receivers such as Calvin Austin and Jonnu Smith. This not only impacts the field, it also has a direct effect on Fantasy Football leagues, where many key players were injured or disappointed.

In this uncertain context, the decisions you make on the waiver wire can define your season. Here are the best options to pick up before Week 2, based on their projected value, playing volume and potential Fantasy impact.

Top Waiver Wire Picks for Week 2 in Fantasy Football

Aaron Rodgers proved he can still be a dominant force, throwing four TDs against a supposedly solid New York Jets defense. His immediate connection with receivers such as Austin, Skowronek and Jonnu Smith makes him a viable option in leagues where the quarterback position is unstable.

Although Dylan Sampson’s rushing numbers for the Cleveland Browns were modest, he shone in the passing game with eight receptions for 64 yards. Joe Flacco looked for him constantly as a safety valve and if he remains as the third down back, his value in PPR leagues will quickly increase.

With Rashee Rice suspended and Xavier Worthy injured, Marquise Brown of the Kansas City Chiefs was Mahomes’ most sought-after receiver, racking up 16 targets, 10 receptions and 99 yards. If this trend continues, he could become the Chiefs’ WR1 in the weeks to come.

Undervalued wide receivers and tight ends who could explode

Despite his history of drops, Quentin Johnston was one of the most productive receivers in Week 1 with five receptions, 79 yards and two touchdowns. His role in the Chargers’ and Justin Herbert’s passing offense could establish him as a starting piece for your Fantasy.

Jonnu Smith was the Steelers’ Week 1 receiving leader with five catches and a touchdown. His history with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and the lack of established receivers in Pittsburgh make him a solid bet in leagues with needs at the tight end position.

Week 2 is key to taking advantage of your rivals’ mistakes on the waiver wire. Whether it’s gambling on a resurgent veteran like Rodgers or getting ahead with rookies like Dylan Sampson or Quentin Johnston.
