Aaron Rodgers runs out of time as things get ugly for the Steelers

Throughout this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers almost every day. Yet, despite the constant speculation, the two sides have yet to come to an agreement.

As the 2025 season rapidly approaches, the Steelers’ hopes for a successful campaign hang in the balance-largely dependent on whether Rodgers decides to join the team.

Amid the uncertainty, sports analyst Keyshawn Johnson provided a glimmer of hope for Pittsburgh. Appearing on Speak, Johnson expressed confidence that Rodgers would not leave the Steelers hanging, predicting that the four-time MVP would show up for the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs) starting on May 27.

“He’s going 100%. Do you think Aaron Rodgers wants to hold them hostage and then leave them standing at the altar? I don’t,” Johnson said, adding that Rodgers would be present when OTAs begin.

However, with only a short 15-day window until OTAs kick off, the pressure is mounting. If Rodgers doesn’t make his decision soon, it could have serious consequences for the Steelers, who desperately need a quarterback with proven leadership and experience. Without such a figure, their 2025 season could be in jeopardy from the start.

Why time is running out for the Steelers

The Steelers’ window to integrate Rodgers into their offense is closing quickly. The longer they wait, the harder it will be for the 41-year-old quarterback to acclimate to a new team and system.

Unlike his previous teams, where Rodgers had built familiarity with his teammates and coaching staff, Pittsburgh presents new challenges for him. If Rodgers doesn’t commit soon, the Steelers’ coaching staff will struggle to adjust their playbook to maximize his strengths.

Without a veteran quarterback like Rodgers leading the way, the Steelers face the very real possibility of a rocky start to the season. The team needs a stable, winning mentality under center to keep their postseason hopes alive. Rodgers is that leader, but if he delays his decision, the Steelers might be left scrambling for a solution, making it harder to prepare for a successful season.

As the Steelers approach the 2025 season, they are at a critical juncture. Securing a proven quarterback is essential to their hopes of competing in the AFC, but waiting until the last minute for Rodgers’ decision could be disastrous. While Rodgers has the potential to elevate the Steelers’ offense, a late commitment would leave the team with limited time to adjust and strategize.

Rodgers’ decision isn’t just about filling a roster spot-it’s about whether he can quickly adapt to a new system and take charge of a team with high expectations. Pittsburgh has the talent, but they need a seasoned quarterback to tie everything together. The longer they wait, the less time Rodgers will have to integrate himself, and the more difficult it will be for the team to execute their game plan effectively.
