Aaron Rogers returns at 41 years of age. Yes, believe it or not. It’s not a conspiracy theory or an intergalactic pact. The guy is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Against all odds, the premium quarterback and four-time NFL MVP is back in action for one more year and is a must-watch for fantasy football enthusiasts.
Those two emotionally horrible years for Rodgers with the New York Jets are over. Now he moves to a completely different team: Mike Tomlin’s disciplined, ground-and-pound offense.
Pittsburgh Steelers, a new home with discipline
There are those who say he has no chance in standard leagues, but let’s review his production in 2024 and you draw your own conclusions.
- 3,897 yards (8th in the NFL)
- 28 TDs (7th)
- QB19 in points per game
Now, in the black and gold uniform, Rodgers has his sights set on more than just revenge: reinvention.
Steelers schedule favors Rodgers
The first week will be luxurious. Rodgers will face the New York Jets. Maybe that day he will make it clear that he still has gas in the tank. Revenge, morbid and guaranteed rating.
For all those who play Superflex fantasy, this will be a goldmine. Now, in single QB leagues Rodgers has a ceiling. Age does not forgive.
Rodgers will make a good match with DK Metcalf
The Steelers already had D.K. Metcalf ready before they signed Rodgers. This tall, physical, leopard-fast, red-zone dominant receiver was working out before the quarterback signing.
Now, with the signature of the offensive boss in place, the two have established a partnership that has proved to be very good. And that connection matters.
To give you an idea of who we’re talking about, since he entered the league, D.K. Metcalf leads the league with 96 end zone targets. His floor is solid WR2. His ceiling, if it all comes together, is top 12.
The rest of the Steelers’ receivers will make a difference
George Pickens went to the Cowboys. Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods will battle it out to be the WR2, but there is no clear heir to the throne. Pittsburgh could sign a veteran, but for now, the table is set for Metcalf to eat the cake.
Jaylen Warren, the silent horse
NFL running back NFL running back NFL running back NFL running back
- 4.8 yds per carry
- 3.4 yards after contact
- 9.5% explosive runs
Rodgers loves pass-catching running backs. He did it with Aaron Jones, he did it with Breece Hall (57 receptions in 2024). Warren could easily surpass 50 receptions and be an RB2 with weekly upside.
Pat Freiermuth: The Steelers’ underrated weapon
The tight end finished 2024 with:
- 653 yards
- 65 receptions
- 7 TDs
- He finished as the TE9 in points per game.
With a short body of receivers, Freiermuth could be Rodgers’ preferred escape valve and sneak back into the fantasy top 10.
Rodgers is not the 2011 version. Nor the 2020 version. But in a solid system, with Metcalf as a partner, Freiermuth as a wildcard and Warren as a hidden receiver, he can be a gem for Superflex leagues or as a luxury QB2 in deeper formats. In standard leagues, don’t draft him high… but don’t lose sight of him.
