The 2025 NFL Draft is almost halfway done, with Round 3 wrapping up on Friday night. The biggest storyline continues to be Shedeur Sanders. The Colorado Buffaloes quarterback has slide to a point where no one expected. There were rumors in the days leading up to the draft that he could fall out of the first round, but no one except NFL front office executives could have expected him to still be available heading into Day 3.
The issue with Sanders, in the eyes of NFL teams, clearly has nothing to do with his on-field play. Sure, he doesn’t have an electric arm and he takes too many sacks, but it’s tough to say some of the quarterbacks taken above him have a higher NFL ceiling. What has been most surprising, though, has been that two of the teams with the strongest links to Sanders, the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, have completely ignored him despite being able to get him at a great value.
The Steelers’ current starting quarterback is Mason Rudolph. Given that they clearly don’t see Sanders as a potential starter, the idea of Aaron Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh has gained a lot of steam after three rounds of the draft.
Steelers draft pick Kaleb Johnson has been training with Aaron Rodgers
In a surprising way, another one of the Steelers’ draft moves could pave the way to Rodgers joining the team. Pittsburgh selected running back Kaleb Johnson in the third round. During the offseason, the Iowa product actually had a training session with none other than Rodgers himself.
Johnson’s connection to Rodgers combined with the team’s thin quarterback depth and a seeming unwillingness to draft Sanders, has Steelers fans thinking it’s a foregone conclusion that the veteran is in Pittsburgh before the season begins.
