Aaron Rodgers insists labels portraying him as attention-seeking are not true

In the podcast Not Just Football, Aaron Rodgers opened up about various aspects of his life, while also seeking to shed the label often attached to him of being someone constantly in search of attention within the league.

During a conversation with fellow NFL veteran Cam Heyward, now also his teammate with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Heyward asked Rodgers how he feels when discussing personal matters. He also lamented that Rodgers had not always been given the space to express himself in such ways earlier in his career.

Faced with that scenario, the new Steelers quarterback admitted that he prefers to keep his life private, though in recent years he has dared to share more openly.

I think there’s an entitlement to that information that people have that they feel like they’re owed that information. And most of my career, I mean, the title of the documentary that I didn’t pick was Enigma. … Being an enigma means that there’s just unknowns.

There’s a mystery almost to it. I haven’t done that as a way to garner more attention, which is like a narrative around me that I’m attention-seeking in my life. You know, I’ve actually shared more in the last few years than the first 10 years of my career.

I don’t want to talk about anything. I was having issues with my family that I thought was appropriate to keep private. Yeah. You know, although I dated high-profile people, like I for the most part wanted to keep that private.

What Rodgers says about Brett Favre’s openness regarding his problems

In the podcast, Rodgers pointed to an example from legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

I saw what what Brett did in Green Bay, he was very public about his struggles and different things. And I just have always wanted to keep a separation between personal and private and public life. And the stuff I was going through this offseason, I mean, outside of my marriage, was very difficult things.

Beyond knowing details of their new quarterback’s personal life, millions of Steelers fans across the country and abroad are hoping that Rodgers’ performance on the field will be spectacular, giving the franchise real chances to contend in the postseason.

Steelers preseason

The Steelers have already played two preseason games. In their opener, they earned a 31-25 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. For their second matchup, they fell 17-14 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Their final preseason game will be against the Carolina Panthers.

Looking ahead to the regular season, Pittsburgh will open on Sunday, September 7, when it faces the New York Jets, Rodgers’ former team. He spent the last two years in New York, though he only played one full season due to the injury that sidelined him during his first year with the franchise.
