Aaron Rodgers gets strict: Not just any team will be able to hire his services next season

Aaron Rodgers is not taking his finger off the line. Despite coming off two forgettable years with the New York Jets, the 21-season veteran is looking for a new team. Not only that, but any franchise that wants to sign him must know that there is a list of requirements they must meet.

If there is one thing that Rodgers showed in his only full year with the Jets, it is that he still has something to offer. In the 2024 season, the Super Bowl XLV champion completed 368 passes in 584 attempts, stacking 3,897 yards, 28 touchdown passes, and 11 interceptions.

These numbers put him among the best in the NFL, despite the Jets finishing with a 5-12 record; far from the playoffs. Still, Rodgers has no plans to hang up his cleats; on the contrary, he has already published his list of requirements for any team that knocks on his door.

What is Aaron Rodgers looking for in a team?

Rodgers was brief but forceful in stating what he asks for in order to sign with a team. First, “If they want you,” he said to TMZ, and second, “If they have a good team.” The first is not so difficult to fulfill since at least six teams will be looking for a new quarterback in the next free agency.

The second may be a bit more complicated. It is true that the former Jets’ star put up great numbers with a team with limited talent, especially on the offensive line, but teams that meet the second requirement might not want all the drama that comes with signing Aaron Rodgers.

Also, most top-tier teams already have a long-term quarterback. In turn, those who might be interested in his services might be looking for a bridge quarterback while they find their long-term starter or a mentor to develop a young talent behind him.

Which teams could pursue Rodgers?

Three franchises could be interested in the services of the five-time MVP: the Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Rams. The former, in particular, could call Rodgers when free agency begins on March 12, as rumors point to them letting Russell Wilson and Justin Fields go.

Despite the rumors, the Los Angeles and Las Vegas cases are harder to prove. The Rams are still “married” to Matthew Stafford while the Raiders might be more interested in drafting Shedeur Sanders than calling up a veteran, even if that veteran is Aaron Rodgers.
