The NFL offseason is here and with it comes speculation over where several big names will play next season. One of those names is Aaron Rodgers.
After parting ways with the New York Jets after two disappointing seasons with the team, the 41-year-old is looking for what could be the final landing spot in his storied career.
One team who could take a flyer, if recent reports are anything to go by, are the Chicago Bears. While that may seem odd at first given the Bears took Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft, NFL insider Courtney Cronin explained why the idea may not be crazy after all.
“There’s logic in place that shows you it would make sense for someone like Caleb Williams,” Cronin said on ESPN 1000.
“You have a four-time MVP in the room, somebody who, no matter who your quarterback coach is, no matter who else is in the room, the guy’s gonna have an answer for literally everything and be able to develop you into the franchise player that you want to be.
“You explore the idea… I don’t think it can be ruled out completely.”
Adding to the story is the fact that Williams is said to be a big fan of Rodgers, even telling NBC before a game last season that he models his game after the former Green Bay Packers star.
Rodgers looking for new home
Rodgers signing in Chicago would be quite the story given he once told fans at Soldier Field: “I still own you.”
However stranger things have happened, and with Rodgers looking for a new team after going 5-12 with the Jets last season, a move to the Bears would allow him to change the narrative around him after a difficult few years.
“Is he a first-ballot Hall of Famer? Absolutely. But I think he’s done himself a disservice the last couple years,” Cronin said. “
“If he’s at the point where he can right his own wrongs and not do what he did the last time he was in this situation, where he could have brought along Jordan Love and he said, ‘No, I’m good.'”
