Aaron Rodgers attacks Aaron Glenn and tells the truth about the meeting that ended with his departure from the New York Jets

Aaron Rodgers is no longer a member of the New York Jets after the team opted to cut ties with the controversial quarterback following two years with the organization, and it seems the split wasn’t an amicable one.

The 41-year-old opened up on his departure during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, and he made it clear his meeting with new Jets coach Aaron Glenn wasn’t a great one.

“Listen, that was an interesting two years to say the least. I figured that when I flew across country to my dime there would be a conversation,” said Rodgers.

“The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking… he runs out of the room. I’m like ‘that’s strange’.

“Then he comes back with the GM and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: ‘You sure you wanna play football?’ And I said ‘yes’ and he said ‘we’re going in another direction’.”

Rodgers not happy with how meeting played out

It seems Rodgers’ biggest issue is that he flew across the country to meet with Glenn, only to be told that an abrupt decision had already been made. He says he only spent about 40 minutes back at the team’s facilities.

Rodgers spent two seasons with the Jets, but his first season was a lost one after he suffered an Achilles injury just four snaps into the first game of the season against the Buffalo Bills.

After that came a disappointing 5-12 campaign in Rodgers’ first and only full season with the team. The Jets never looked like a team capable of competing for a playoff spot, and the team opted to cut ties with Rodgers after the season.

“I wasn’t upset about it but I was just surprised. I’m still thankful for my time with the Jets,” he said.

While Rodgers won’t be playing for the Jets next season, he has been linked with a move to the Pittsburgh Steelers in recent weeks. However the veteran quarterback pumped the brakes on a move to Pittsburgh, or any team, as he says he is going through a lot in his personal life and that is his focus at this time.

“This entire time, I haven’t felt like I owed anybody a decision at any point,” he said.

“I’ve said listen, if you need to move on and do something, love and respect. But there’s been no deadline. I’ve talked to Mike T many times.”
