Aaron Rodgers at the heart of NFL rumors: Is he heading to one of these two AFC teams?

As the NFL offseason heats up, Aaron Rodgers has become a focal point of speculation following the Jets’ announcement about “moving in a different direction at QB.” With several teams still on the hunt for a reliable quarterback, Rodgers’ name has surfaced in discussions, particularly regarding the Indianapolis Colts. At 41, his future remains uncertain, but the Colts appear keen on bringing the 4-time NFL MVP into their fold.

The Colts’ current QB, Anthony Richardson, has shown potential but struggled with consistency and injuries. Drafted fourth overall in 2023, Richardson’s rookie season was cut short after just four starts due to an AC joint sprain. Though he flashed moments of brilliance-like becoming the first rookie QB to score a rushing TD in his third start-those moments have been overshadowed by injuries and questions about his professionalism.

This season, Richardson missed games due to an oblique injury and faced criticism for taking himself out of a game in Week 8 for a breather, which led to a brief benching. The Colts might see Rodgers as a stabilizing force who could provide mentorship while competing for the starting role.

Rodgers, despite recovering from an ACL tear, had an impressive last season with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and a 63% completion rate-all while playing every game. His durability and experience could be invaluable to a team like Indianapolis. However, there’s always an inherent risk with a veteran QB.

“What if his Jets’ bad luck strikes again the moment he debuts for the Colts?” some specialists speculate, referencing Rodgers’ recent struggles with injuries and performance. The Colts must weigh the potential benefits of his leadership against the possibility of another untimely setback.

Colts and Titans battle for Rodgers

Interestingly, Indianapolis isn’t the only AFC South team eyeing Rodgers. The Tennessee Titans have reportedly joined the race for his signature. ESPN analyst Ben Solak noted, “I like Rodgers to the Titans. Coach Brian Callahan…seems like the sort of guy to fall for Rodgers’ mental ability.”

Callahan’s history working with elite QBs like Peyton Manning and Joe Burrow could make him eager to test Rodgers’ veteran savvy. The Titans, who finished with just three wins last season, ranked 27th in scoring offense and 26th in yards gained.

With options like Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders in next year’s draft, Tennessee could still choose to go younger. However, Rodgers might offer the immediate impact they need to rebound from a dismal season.
