Superstar slugger Juan Soto batted against Aaron Judge with the New York Yankees last season before signing with the New York Mets, but the latter have had no problems without Soto so far. Judge went 4-6 with three home runs, eight RBIs and a double in the Yankees’ 20-9 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.
The Bronx Bombers hit nine home runs as a team, one shy of the MLB record. They are also the first team in history to have their 1-6 hitters all go yard in the same game.
Yankees are doing well without Soto
They are also the first team to hit three home runs in the first three pitches of a game, which they accomplished with Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger and Judge, respectively (via Sportradar). Although the Yankees (2-0) are doing well without Soto, Judge refuses to underestimate the greatness of his former teammate, according to SNY.
“Nobody can replace Soto,” said the future Hall of Famer. “He’s unique, but I think with the players we brought in, we were able to cover some deficiencies that we probably had last year.”
Judge, Soto and Giancarlo Stanton led the Bronx Bombers to the World Series in October, but they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
The Yankees brought in Bellinger and Goldschmidt after Soto signed a record 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets. They also promoted star prospect Jasson Dominguez to full-time duty in the Majors.
Soto and the Mets (1-1) will play their third game of the season against the Houston Astros on Saturday night.
