Aaron Judge could be the biggest beneficiary of robot umpires

MLB is preparing to implement the Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS), and one player who could benefit the most is Aaron Judge

Since 2017, the Yankees outfielder has led the league in called strikes outside the zone, accumulating a total of 368 erroneous decisions that have directly affected his offensive performance.

A change that could redefine his career

With the new ABS challenge system, hitters will be able to challenge certain umpiring decisions, which would significantly reduce errors in the strike zone. For Judge, this represents a golden opportunity to improve his batting average, increase his offensive output and reduce frustrations at the plate.

Impact on the Yankees and opposing pitchers

A more confident Aaron Judge, less exposed to umpiring errors, could be key to the New York Yankees’ offense. In addition, opposing pitchers could be forced to be more precise, knowing that their pitches will be evaluated by an automated system. Judge, known for punishing any slip-up, could take even more advantage of these situations.

Judge’s stance on robot umpires

While the ABS system promises benefits, Judge has expressed his appreciation for the human element in the game. In an interview with Pat McAfee, he stated:

I like having the umpire there, the human touch. I don’t know if it’s old-fashioned, but it’s what I’ve always liked.

Despite his preference for traditional referees, he acknowledges that change is inevitable and that players will have to adapt.

The start of a new era for Judge?

The arrival of robot umpires could be a turning point in Aaron Judge’s career. With fewer bad calls and more hitting opportunities, the Yankees slugger has everything he needs to take his game to the next level. While the debate over ABS continues, its implementation could bring justice to one of MLB’s most dominant hitters. In a sport where every detail counts, technological accuracy could be the boost Judge needs to break new records.
