Aaron Judge claims his third AL MVP, yet his Yankees legacy still hangs on a World Series title

Aaron Judge is a proud bearer of the New York Yankees jersey. His personal achievements have positioned him as one of the franchise’s defining figures; however, there is still something missing for that greatness to reach its fullest dimension: a title with his team.

The right fielder of the Bronx Bombers has become a cornerstone for the organization, and if one looks strictly at his individual numbers, there is little left to debate. He is the captain who consistently shoulders the franchise, yet that effort has not been enough.

A very long stretch without championships for the Yankees

The year 2009 marks the last time the New York Yankees lifted the MLB championship trophy. Sixteen years have now passed since that triumph, and the club has not found a way to return to the pinnacle and add another title to its storied history.

A similar drought unfolded between 1978 and 1996, when the Manhattan Mule, another of the team’s traditional nicknames, endured a shortage much like the current one. That stretch lasted 17 years, and the ongoing drought will match it in 2026 if the Yankees fail to secure another ring.

It is worth recalling, however, that the 1994 season was halted due to a players’ strike that suspended the league. Setting that year aside would mean the current drought has already reached the same length without the Yankees managing to raise another trophy.

The major accomplishments of Aaron Judge with the Yankees

Having three MVP awards in the last four seasons sounds simple, but earning them is anything but easy. It requires remarkable consistency and tremendous power at the plate, as well as the ability to deliver the crucial swing that helps secure victories for the team.

During this period, the only season in which Judge did not win the award was the one in which he missed 56 games because of an injury. That year, the honor went to Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, who delivered a spectacular performance over the course of the campaign.

A team effort is required to become MLB champions

Judge’s exceptional performances year after year have kept the Yankees in postseason contention, but the support of the entire roster is always essential. This may be the area where the Yankees have fallen short in their attempts to capture another championship.

The front office needs to make greater efforts to surround him with more talent, enabling the team to compete on equal footing with elite clubs that have demonstrated superior efficiency in key moments.

Now that they are evaluating new players, both the manager and the front office must seek pieces capable of reinforcing Judge, adding strength to the lineup, and ensuring that decisive moments become more consistent. Only then will the Yankees have a genuine opportunity to be true contenders for the 2026 season.
