Aaron Boone’s firing demanded as Yankees continue to fall

Every year it’s the same thing. The same movie, the same plot, the same ending. Yankees fans are calling for Aaron Boone to be fired because he had a bad series and then it all blows over. In the end, the manager stays another year.

This time, the reaction from fans was to the Miami Marlins sweep over the weekend. In three games, the Bronx Bombers couldn’t hit the fish from South Florida. What happened? Mismanagement of personnel? Crisis? Elimination?

The Yankees are in the postseason

It’s true, the Yankees had never been swept by the Marlins. Never. But the Marlins are playing .500 in a division where the Mets and Phillies are 8-2 in their last 10 games. To consider them an easy team to beat is to read the wrong book.

If the season ended today, the Yankees would play in the postseason. Period. That’s an irrefutable fact. The Bronx Bombers have not been able to have a solid infield –especially since Oswaldo Cabrera’s injury– and have had to do somersaults to stabilize the infield

Yes, it’s true, they play for 25-32 since May 29, but there are still two months of the tournament left and they are only 4.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays, leaders of the American League East division

But also, there are three games remaining between the Yankees and the Blue Jays in early September. This means that all is not lost and that the fans’ outbursts are nothing more than bravado

You also have to ask yourself a serious question: who has the ability to lead that team? There are many egos together, and you need someone who knows how to deal with those. And there no one can say anything about Boone.

Aaron Boone knows where the Yankees stand

“It’s time to check the guts for us“, Boone said after losing Sunday’s game in Miami

This Monday, the Yankees begin a three-game series against Texas, a team that is two games behind the New Yorkers in the American League wild card. If they lose two of three, perhaps then the desire of so many will come true. But for now, there is no dismissal

An enraged fan wrote on his X account, formerly Twitter: “This team is NOT going to the playoffs with Boone as manager! PERIOD!”

As already analyzed, this follower overreacts, because the Yankees, at this very moment, are in the playoffs

Another New York Yankees fan, who signs as @Anton TX on X, wrote: “It should be Boone’s last day! Dave Martinez won a World Series and he was fired,” commented another angry fan.

Boone’s contractual situation and what the Yankees think

Before writing about Boone’s contract, it’s important to clarify something. What fault does the manager have that Jazz Chisholm ran the bases so badly that he was doubled up at first base after a fly ball to the second baseman? That happened in the Major Leagues

Instead of the player staying close to first base with a fly ball to the infield, he opened up too much and boom! Double play when he tried to return.

Boone was furious about that, but if the ball is played badly it is impossible to win

That’s not to mention that the strategist has to constantly deal with injuries, lineup changes and situations. Boone has not had the same team on the field in a season since 2022. Cabrera, Giancarlo Stanton, even Aaron Judge

But let’s talk numbers. Getting rid of Boone prematurely is absurd. The manager will earn $5.5 million in 2025 and in February this year he signed a contract extension worth $10.5 million for the 2026 and 2027 seasons

What does this mean? It’s simple: the Yankees trust him

Hal Steinbrenner is not The Boss. The Bronx Bombers’ boss is less caustic than his father. He usually talks things over and sees how they can be resolved

In New York they boo everyone

“With Boone, anything is possible! Except winning a World Series!”, responded a Yankees fan.

Another was more direct and said: “Fire Boone!”

Last year, to be honest, the Yankees were in worse shape, injury-wise, and yet they played in the World Series. Oh, and in New York they recently booed Mariano Rivera.

The truth is, if Aaron Boone is fired, Brian Cashman, the Yankees’ general manager, also has to go out the same door. He is the one who has made the worst deals lately. Do we need to remind you of DJ LeMahieu or Aaron Hicks?

The die is cast, the fans are upset, as always, but when the Yankees go on a six or seven game winning streak, all will be forgotten and Aaron Boone will remain in charge of the most famous team in baseball.
