Aaron Boone reveals Aaron Judge won’t suffer the same fate as Anthony Volpe: He won’t undergo surgery

Aaron Boone revealed the fate of the New York Yankees‘ Aaron Judge and his surgery situation, which was originally published in The Sporting News. The New York Yankees lost in the ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays and ended another year without a World Series title. But during the 2025 season, Judge had another incredible season at the plate

However, it was not the same story on the field. Judge was dealing with an injury during the second half of the year, which severely affected his defense and ability to make throws, something that was a major talking point as the season came to a close. Now, as the Yankees prepare for the offseason, Aaron Boone revealed whether Judge would need surgery this winter. As shared by MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, Boone’s comments were good news for Yankees fans about Judge’s injury.

Good news for Yankees fans about Judge’s injury

Aaron Boone of the Yankees revealed that Aaron Judge will not need surgery. “Aaron Judge will not need surgery,” said Aaron Boone, wrote Hoch. As part of his recovery, Boone said of Judge: “He will take some time off and continue to do strengthening exercises and rehabilitation work.”

This update from Boone is a good sign for Judge. After dealing with a right flexor strain that affected his throwing ability from the outfield, the recovery this winter will not include surgery.Knowing that Judge, arguably the best player in baseball, does not need surgery in the offseason is a great sign for the Yankees. Allowing Judge to rest and recover, and be ready for Spring Training, is a relief after the injury ruined Judge’s season.

Of course, Judge came back and remained an elite player, but the injury affected him enough to show a decline in his performance, mainly in the outfield. The 33-year-old will head into his 11th MLB season, and 11th in New York. He is coming off another extraordinary season, in which he led the American League in:

  • 137 runs scored
  • Walks with 124
  • Batting average (.331)
  • On-base percentage (.457)
  • Slugging percentage (.688)
  • OPS (1.144).

The seven-time All-Star does not need surgery, which puts Judge on track to be healthy for the start of Spring Training. After some injury concerns this season, this is great news for Judge and the Yankees, as Judge’s injury can heal in time for the 2026 season.
