Aaron Boone revealed he already knew that Cam Schlittler was going to deliver for the New York Yankees

In a decisive MLB postseason game to kick off an exciting October, the New York Yankees kept their playoff hopes alive thanks to a stellar performance from rookie starting pitcher Cam Schlittler, saving manager Aaron Boone from a failure that could have put him on the hot seat.

Cam Schlittler was simply dominant, making history for the storied franchise that leads MLB in World Series titles, though they haven’t lifted the trophy since 2009.

Cam Schlittler Proves Aaron Boone Right

It’s no secret that injuries have plagued the Yankees’ starting rotation, making it critical for young arms to step up in this crucial postseason moment. Cam Schlittler not only secured the win but also made history as the first pitcher in MLB postseason history to throw at least 8 scoreless innings with no walks and 12 or more strikeouts.

Additionally, within Yankees history, the young pitcher set a franchise record for the most strikeouts in a postseason debut.

The Yankees now advance to face the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS (American League Division Series), another AL East rival. Before reaching this stage, Aaron Boone praised Cam Schlittler, saying he always believed in his ability to shine in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series.

“Felt great about where he was mentally… I knew it wasn’t going to be too big for him. What a performance,” Boone commented after the game.

Looking ahead, RHP Luis Gil (4-1, 3.32 ERA) or RHP Will Warren (9-8, 4.44 ERA) will likely start the Divisional Series opener on Saturday for the Yankees in Toronto, where the Blue Jays are expected to counter with RHP Kevin Gausman (10-11, 3.59 ERA) or RHP Shane Bieber (4-2, 3.57 ERA).
