After a disastrous string of games, the New York Yankees can say they’ve received good news with the return of Aaron Judge, a player who has been serving as the designated hitter in recent weeks. But now, he could return to his usual position, potentially reducing the risk of errors the team might commit.
Aaron Judge may return to the outfield soon
According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has indicated that Judge could return to the outfield as early as this weekend when the team faces the St. Louis Cardinals in a series.
After suffering an elbow injury on July 22, Aaron Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list to recover from a right flexor strain, a condition that caused pain when throwing rather than hitting. His ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) was intact, and with this latest update, it appears his elbow is recovering quickly.
Aaron Boone‘s concern was placing Giancarlo Stanton in right field while Judge was limited to being the designated hitter, knowing that Judge hadn’t played in the outfield since September 14, 2023.
Although fans were highly concerned about Stanton‘s defense, given the delicate situation the Yankees were in, it was more critical to get Aaron Judge’s bat back in the lineup.
Andy Martino of SNY believes that Aaron Judge‘s return to the outfield is not yet certain, though he also doubts Stanton’s ability to cover the position at Busch Stadium, as it has “more ground to cover.”
Ultimately, the Yankees will need to maneuver and find immediate solutions to their needs as they are in the midst of a battle for a postseason berth.
