Aaron Boone faces criticism for Yankees’ sluggish start and one of their star pitchers

It seems that the stories surrounding the two New York teams are similar at the start of the Major League Baseball season, as in both cases there is always great expectation, there are always players to keep a close eye on and there are almost always ups and downs that make their fans wonder if the decisions made in the offseason were the right ones

While the Mets are all about Juan Soto and the marked optimism of owner Steve Cohen to overcome the slump in which the Queens team finds itself, in the Bronx the reality is not very different, and also points to recovery after a poor start that has them practically with the same record as their city rivals.

Some figures from the New York Yankees had also fallen short, such as pitcher Carlos Rodon, but taking into account the context of the start of the season, the team decided not to make a fuss, a position that the fans did not share.

“Carlos is about to let loose, I told you so”

For that reason, manager Aaron Boone has had to step up to the plate to defend his stellar starter, who just on Thursday had a great outing against the Texas Rangers and picked up his fifth win of the season, showing solidity in his six-inning effort, in which he allowed only two hits. Boone decided to remind the press covering the Yankees of his perspective on Rodon, which has not changed one iota: “I tried to tell you this when he gave up the three-run homers and everyone was losing their minds. He’s about to let loose and start winning games in a row. You see what happened today, a pitch here and there, a couple of them, and, you know, he’s on another level. He’s been really good.”

Rodon responds with actions

Eight strikeouts, two walks and 67 strikes from 105 pitches were enough for the left-handed pitcher to silence critics and at the same time support his manager, who only had good words for him. Rodon finished his work not before drying up the Texas offense, allowing only a double to Sam Haggerty and a single to Josh Jung for the narrow victory in a great game at Yankee Stadium.

Rodon has also shown humility, because despite his status as a $162 million star, when asked about his participation, he decided instead to praise his teammates, catcher J.C. Escarra and slugger Cody Bellinger.
