A stunning free-kick goal by Dominik Szoboszlai
A beautiful late free-kick by Dominik Szoboszlai earned Liverpool a 1-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield. The Hungarian superstar, who wears No. 8 for the Reds, located the top corner of the Kop-end net from all of 30 yards with seven minutes remaining of Sunday’s Premier League contest.
Szoboszlai’s magical kick was just reward for the champions, who were increasingly dominant following the interval. His piece of quality was the difference on the afternoon, securing a 1-0 win for Arne Slot‘s men and extending the 100 per cent start to their title defence to three games.
Post-match, the midfielder – who again shone from an unorthodox right-back position – analysed the winning goal and the contest, speaking to Sky Sports. “Well, luckily since we started the season we could practise some free-kicks. I felt this was a little bit further. I was like, ‘I’ll take a risk.’ I was confident in myself so I tried it.”
Liverpool FC head coach praises Szoboszlai
During his post-match press conference, Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot praised Dominik Szoboszlai by saying that the Hungarian understands what a Reds player should look like: “if you wear this shirt you should give everything, no matter in what position you play.”
Slot was happy that his team has earned all of the nine points during the first three games of the season. “So, that’s only positive but I do know and understand that we can do better.”
The Dutch leader admitted that if Liverpool played against Arsenal 10 times in the same fashion, it would be eight times a draw, and a victory by each team. “It was an uneventful game, which is something sometimes positive as well because both teams were really good in rest defence and in defending.”
