A star wide receiver and Super Bowl winner could team up with Fernando Mendoza in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Raiders may be on the verge of one of the most aggressive roster resets in the NFL, and it could involve pairing a rookie quarterback with one of the league’s most established wide receivers.

According to NFL.com columnist Jeffri Chadiha, a scenario is emerging in which A.J. Brown could land in Las Vegas just as the franchise selects Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. It is the kind of move that would signal a clear shift in direction for the Raiders.

Drafting a quarterback first overall is already a franchise-defining decision, but surrounding that player with an elite receiver immediately would accelerate the rebuilding timeline. Brown, a Super Bowl-winning wideout with the Philadelphia Eagles, represents exactly the type of proven playmaker young quarterbacks rely on early in their careers.

The Eagles are willing to listen to the offers

The possibility of Brown becoming available stems from growing tension in Philadelphia. Over the past year, his frustration with his role in the offense has been well documented, turning into a recurring storyline throughout the regular season. While Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has not publicly committed to moving Brown, there have been indications that the team would at least listen to offers-provided the return is substantial.

That price tag is expected to be steep. Recent market activity offers a benchmark, particularly the deal that sent star receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins to the Denver Broncos for multiple high-value draft picks. Any trade for Brown would likely start with a similar framework, potentially involving a first-round selection and additional assets. Financial considerations also play a role, as a post-June 1 trade would significantly reduce the Eagles‘ dead cap hit, making a deal more feasible from a roster-building standpoint.

For the Raiders, the logic is straightforward. If they are indeed targeting Mendoza with the top pick, they will need to provide him with immediate support. Transitioning from college football to the NFL is challenging under any circumstances, but having a receiver of Brown‘s caliber can ease that process. His ability to win one-on-one matchups, stretch the field, and produce after the catch would give Mendoza a reliable target from day one.

The Raiders need consistent offensive identity

There is also a broader strategic element. The Raiders have lacked consistent offensive identity in recent seasons, particularly at quarterback and wide receiver. Pairing a highly regarded rookie passer with an established star could help stabilize the offense and create a foundation for long-term growth. It would also send a message that the franchise is serious about competing sooner rather than later.

Of course, Las Vegas would not be alone in pursuing Brown if he becomes available. Teams like the New England Patriots have already been mentioned as potential suitors, partly due to Brown’s past connection with head coach Mike Vrabel during their time together with the Tennessee Titans. Given A.J.’s talent and track record, a competitive market is almost guaranteed.

Still, the Raiders stand out as a particularly intriguing fit because of their current situation. A rookie quarterback, a need for elite receiving talent, and the flexibility to make a bold move all align in a way that could make this pairing realistic. If it happens, it would not just be a high-profile transaction-it would reshape the trajectory of the franchise.
