A rare move for the Kansas City Chiefs as Xavier Worthy looks set to return sooner than expected

After suffering a shoulder injury in a collision with tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Xavier Worthy appears to be on track to return to action in Week 3, according to Mike Garafolo, which would be this coming weekend. This is very good news for the Chiefs, who have started the season with two consecutive losses, a rare occurrence for a team led by Patrick Mahomes.

Worthy did practice this week, and my understanding is he’s got a shot to play next week against the Giants here at MetLife Stadium,” Garafolo said. “We’ll see how the week in practice goes, though.

While there is still no certainty Worthy will play in Week 3, the practice squad made a move involving another receiver, signaling that the team might be adjusting its roster to prepare for his return.

According to sports analyst Charle Goldman, the Chiefs have released wide receiver Hal Presley from the practice squad. In his place, they signed linebacker Cole Christiansen, who will be returning to a familiar role with the team.

Presley, a rookie, played four years with the Baylor Bears but went undrafted. He participated in minicamp with the Buffalo Bills, attempting to earn a roster spot, but was ultimately cut before the start of the season.

He then joined the Chiefs on September 10 after failing to secure a spot with the Bills. However, his stint with Kansas City was short-lived, as he was released only six days later. Presley did not take a single snap during Week 2, when the Chiefs suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Christiansen returns to Kansas City

Cole Christiansen is no stranger to the Kansas City Chiefs. He previously spent time with the team between 2022 and 2025, winning two championship rings during that stretch. Throughout his tenure, he has appeared in 10 games, bringing valuable experience and familiarity with the team’s defensive system.

The Chiefs waived WR Hal Presley from the practice squad and re-signed LB Cole Christiansen to the practice squad.

the team officially announced.

This move aims to strengthen the defensive side of the roster while providing depth and leadership to a team in urgent need of a spark. With Christiansen back, Kansas City hopes to regain some stability and get back on track after their rocky start to the season.

Their next game will be against the struggling New York Giants, a team considered to be a weaker opponent. This presents an ideal opportunity for the Chiefs to rebound and secure their first win of the year.

For now, the Chiefs must focus on improving on both sides of the ball. Their lack of execution has been evident in the first two games, where they fell to the Los Angeles Chargers and the Eagles. Patrick Mahomes and his teammates will need to work tirelessly this week to elevate their performance and start turning things around before the season slips further out of reach.
