Tension has been running high inside the Las Vegas Raiders’ locker room amid growing controversy surrounding Christian Wilkins. Initially, his absence was attributed to a prolonged and contentious injury recovery. However, new information has surfaced suggesting that another incident may have played a significant role in the defensive tackle’s departure.

Christian Wilkins had a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders, joining the team in 2024 after showcasing his top form with the Miami Dolphins. The defensive tackle made a strong impression early on with the Raiders, but an untimely injury derailed his momentum and prevented him from reaching his full potential with the Nevada franchise.

What Led to Christian Wilkins’ Split from the Raiders

At first instance, the Las Vegas Raiders attributed Christian Wilkins’ abrupt release to a lingering foot injury that had yet to fully heal. Prior to the setback, Wilkins had delivered strong performances, recording 17 tackles, 2 sacks, and 5 quarterback hits.

However, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, a new incident has emerged that may have contributed to the team’s decision to part ways with the defensive tackle. Drawing significant attention from those closely following the Las Vegas Raiders.

During an appearance on The ‘Pat McAfee Show’, Adam Schefter explained that the decision to release Christian Wilkins was not solely due to his lingering injury. According to Schefter, the release was also influenced by an incident in which Wilkins playfully kissed a teammate on the top of the head during a team meeting.

The gesture reportedly offended the teammate and sparked tension within the locker room. The situation escalated when the unidentified player filed a formal complaint regarding Wilkins’ actions. Following the complaint, the team launched a deeper investigation, which further impacted Wilkins’ standing within the organization.

Ultimately, the decision to release the defensive tackle stemmed from two main factors: ongoing issues with his injury rehabilitation and a behavioral incident that created tension within the locker room. Christian Wilkins was officially removed from the roster last Thursday, when the team publicly announced his release.

Brief run: Christian Wilkins’ time with the Raiders

Despite signing a four-year, $110 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, including $82.75 million guaranteed, Christian Wilkins lasted just one season with the Nevada franchise. Due to the circumstances surrounding his release, the team voided the remaining $35.2 million in guaranteed money.

The case is already being addressed by the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association), which is defending the player’s rights and working toward a more favorable resolution with the Raiders. They are currently reviewing the contract termination to determine if the team violated any terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Christian Wilkins case had left many questions surrounding the real causes of the fired of the player, and if there is something deeper around the team roster. For the moment, the Raiders is preparing a new season, one that will start for next September 7 against the New England Patriots.
