Tiger Woods has found himself back in the spotlight for troubling reasons, after a mugshot was released following his arrest, and the fallout could extend beyond legal issues, potentially placing strain on his relationship with Vanessa Trump.
Police in Florida confirmed the 50-year-old was arrested after a dramatic crash involving a Land Rover he was driving, with early reports indicating the incident unfolded rapidly on a narrow road, raising concerns about both safety and decision-making in the moments before impact.
Authorities said the vehicle attempted to overtake a truck “at high speeds” before losing control, swerving, and ultimately rolling onto its side after clipping another vehicle, creating a scene that could easily have resulted in far more serious consequences.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek stated Woods showed “signs of impairment” following the crash, which occurred shortly after 14:00 local time in Florida, not far from his residence, adding further scrutiny to the golfer’s condition at the time of the incident.
While Woods reportedly passed a breathalyser test, the situation escalated when he declined further testing.
“When it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused,” Sheriff Budensiek said. “And so he has been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
“Had there been someone moving in the opposite direction, we would not be having a conversation saying there was no injuries.
“This could’ve been a lot worse. He [Woods] was lethargic on scene but that we believe was because of what he was intoxicated on.”
Investigators noted the other vehicle involved was towing a trailer, and despite the driver attempting to avoid the collision by edging off the road, there was insufficient space, highlighting how narrowly a more dangerous outcome was avoided in the incident.

The timing of the arrest raises questions about Woods’ personal life, particularly his relationship with Vanessa Trump, which had, until recently, been viewed as stable, increasingly public, and moving in a positive long-term direction.

U.S. President Donald Trump, whose former daughter-in-law Vanessa is dating Woods, reacted briefly.
“I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty,” Trump said. “Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person. Amazing man. But, some difficulty.”
Woods‘ history adds further context, as previous incidents, including a 2009 crash that exposed personal turmoil and a 2017 DUI case, demonstrate a pattern where off-course issues have intersected with his private life, sometimes with lasting consequences.
