A Mexican screamer: Raul Jimenez’s “golazo” to qualify “El Tri” to the final

Raúl Jiménez is proving that his best days are far from over. After a tough showing in the last few years, the Mexican striker showcased his resurgence by leading Mexico to a 2-0 victory over Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal on Thursday.

With two goals, Jiménez not only propelled his team to the final but also reminded fans of his brilliance on the pitch. The match, held at SoFi Stadium, began with a bang as Jiménez wasted no time making his mark and the fans went crazy early on.

Just 60 seconds into the game, he pounced on a rebound in the box and fired a low, precise shot past Canadian goalkeeper D.S. Clair, giving Mexico an early 1-0 lead. Jiménez cemented his heroics in the 75th minute with a stunning free-kick, curling the ball into the top-left corner to seal the victory.

A huge chance to do something never been done

The win sets up an opportunity for Mexico to make history. On Sunday, they will face Panama in the final, aiming for their first Nations League title since the competition’s inception. The victory also comes as a strong follow-up to their success in the 2023 Gold Cup, a title they will defend later this summer.

The SoFi Stadium, though not sold out, saw a solid turnout, especially after the evening’s surprising result in the earlier match: the elimination of the United States by Panama. Canada, led by head coach Jesse Marsch, will now play in the third-place match on Sunday.

For Jiménez, the performance symbolizes a comeback, while for Mexico, the victory offers a chance to reclaim regional supremacy. With momentum on their side, El Tri’s sights are firmly set on lifting the trophy and continuing their resurgence on the international stage.
