Spanish journalist and content creator Javi Hoyos has revealed in the podcast ‘Zodiac‘ by Vanitatis an episode that highlights the pressures that the press can receive around the world of soccer and public figures. According to him, a player offered him unlimited money not to publish information he had in his hands.
Hoyos, who also works as a presenter on TVE’s ‘D Corazon’ and is one of the most visible voices on social networks on current affairs and celebrity news, told this episode without filters, describing it as “surreal”. The offer was not a specific figure, but an implicit proposal of “tell me how much you want” with an open cheque, according to the journalist himself on the program.
The confession has caused a stir because it is not usual for someone of his profile to expose attempts to influence or buy silence before even detailing what information was at stake. The account points directly to the power dynamics surrounding elite sports figures and their media environment, beyond the typical battle for exclusives or headlines.
For now, there is no further public confirmation as to who the footballer involved was or what information was attempted to be stopped. Hoyos himself did not give any names in his statements.
How much does Javi Hoyos earn on social media?
In the same podcast, Hoyos also opened up about his professional finances. The journalist admitted that the most he has charged for a one-off campaign on social networks was 12,000 euros for a video that included attending a photocall to do interviews.
About his work as co-host of ‘D Corazon’ on TVE with Anne Igartiburu, Hoyos was unconcerned about the publication of the channel’s salaries on the transparency portal. He said that no one will be surprised by what he earns, a phrase that sums up his stance on the public perception of television professionals’ earnings.
