A fight broke out between a Pittsburgh Pirates employee and a fan at PNC Park after Monday’s game between the Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals. The altercation began after the fan and a friend began harassing a woman who worked at a food stand inside the stadium, according to KDKA sources.

The Pirates employee stepped in to protect his co-worker and was spat at and shouted at until he lost his temper and the punches began. The fight only stopped when several people intervened and the local police arrived. The incident was recorded by several fans who were at PNC Park

The Pittsburgh team reported that they are reviewing security footage to find out exactly what happened. “We are aware of the unfortunate incident that occurred following the conclusion of yesterday’s game between a PNC Park employee and a guest. The employee’s behavior was completely unacceptable and he was immediately suspended. This incident is currently under investigation. The investigation involves the Pittsburgh Police Department.

Massive support on social media for the employee

The video of the fight quickly went viral on social media and with it the suspension of the Pirates worker, something that a large part of social media does not agree with.“Another reason to boycott PNC Park and Pirates: they punish their employees when idiot fans attack them,” commented one user on X, formerly Twitter

“There are very few who would not react the same as the party employee. Where were the police or the Pirates security? Arrest the thugs and give the kid his job back… and a raise,” another user posted on X.
