76ers star Paul George refuses to discuss reasons behind 25-game NBA suspension

Paul George is set to return to the court after a 25-game NBA suspension. But instead of speaking out, the Philadelphia 76ers star has deliberately refused to discuss the exact circumstances behind the NBA‘s disciplinary decision, leaving both fans and media without clarity.

In his first comments since the suspension, the 76ers ace did not address what specifically led to the ban, as reported by Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports.

However, though he noted that a lingering knee issue had made the downtime somewhat beneficial for his recovery.

George described the break as nearly a “blessing in disguise,” highlighting that it allowed him to rehabilitate while the team faced struggles without key contributors.

“I won’t get into specifics of what it was, that’s more on the personal side,” he said.

It just shows how vital his reintegration will be for Philadelphia‘s playoff aspirations.

76ers depleted without key stars

His return comes after a lopsided loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who secured a 123-103 victory.

Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s 22 points and Jalen Williams‘ 18, the Thunder extended their winning streak to 12 games and exposed the 76ers‘ depleted lineup.

Philadelphia was missing Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and George, leaving VJ Edgecombe to top the scoring with 35 points.

The 76ers hold a .542 record and seventh place in the Eastern Conference, keeping them in the NBA play-in tournament while fighting for a higher seed.

The Thunder also featured Jared McCain, who contributed 13 points in his first game in Philadelphia since being traded from the 76ers in February.

It is a deal that coincided with Philadelphia going 10-12 in subsequent matchups, illustrating the team’s ongoing adjustment to roster changes.

Embiid continues to recover from a right oblique strain with no timetable for return, Maxey remains sidelined with a finger tendon injury.

Elsewhere, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Quentin Grimes are also out due to injury and illness, compounding Philadelphia‘s short-handed challenges.

Who do the 76ers play next? Date, time and where to watch Paul George return

George is expected to return to the 76ers lineup on Wednesday, March 25, when they host the Chicago Bulls.

The game tips off at 19:00 ET/16:00 PT across the United States.

Fans can watch on ESPN/ABC, NBA TV/Peacock/ESPN App, or locally on NBC Sports Philadelphia if regional coverage applies.

Philadelphia, currently 39-33, will rely on George to help rebound from the defeat against Oklahoma City and strengthen their playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference.

The 76ers are just one game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 6 seed.

The 2026 NBA Playoffs are scheduled to begin shortly after the conclusion of the regular season, typically in mid-April, following the play-in tournament that determines the final seeds in each conference.

For the 76ers, securing a top-six spot is crucial, as it ensures direct entry into the first round without additional play-in games and George could push them into that bracket.
