49ers fan shocks crowd by watching preseason game from the top of the scoreboard screen

During last week’s preseason game at Levi’s Stadium, someone was spotted sitting at the very top of the massive scoreboard screen, watching the action unfold below. The scene left fans in shock partly for the breathtaking view, but mostly for the irresponsibility of risking a life in such a dangerous spot just to catch the game. It’s still unclear whether the individual was truly a 49ers fan or a member of the stadium staff.

Imagine this: you’re in the stands, focused on the game and then you notice someone perched up high, looking down on you like a game day sentry. That’s exactly how fans described the scene. Some compared him to a “sniper,” given how calm and steady he looked perched above it all.

Why the dangerous scoreboard moment raises big security questions

Levi’s Stadium isn’t built for spectator stunts from above. Security and engineering both come to mind: how did he not only climb up there but avoid detection for that long? Maybe it was a lapse, or maybe just the confusion of a lively stadium night. Or perhaps it was simply an employee who decided to sit up there for a while, avoiding the trip down only to climb back up again after the game to do his job. Either way, it’s a story folks will be talking about all season long.

This moment comes right as the 49ers closed out their preseason with a solid 30-23 win over the Chargers, finishing with a 2-1 record heading into the regular season.

Even before the NFL season kicks off, the 49ers are already making headlines and not because of their play on the field, but due to a stadium security issue. The question remains whether it was truly a fan who pulled off this stunt, or if it was an employee, in which case the team may need to reinforce safety protocols for its staff.
