The 2025 Zurich Classic of New Orleans is underway, bringing one of the most anticipated and unique events on the PGA Tour calendar. Unlike traditional individual play, this tournament features two-player teams, offering a fresh, exciting, and highly competitive dynamic right after the Masters and the RBC Heritage.
A Unique Format with Big Drama
The tournament takes place at TPC Louisiana with a format alternating between four-ball (best ball) and foursomes (alternate shot). Thursdays and Saturdays feature four-ball play, where teams tend to go low thanks to the chance to take the best score per hole. Fridays and Sundays bring the challenge of foursomes, demanding precision and chemistry between teammates.
All eyes this year are on Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, the defending champions and clear favorites to repeat. It will be McIlroy’s first appearance since his historic Masters win, and fans are already hoping for another Sunday night karaoke session if the duo lifts the trophy again.
But they won’t have it easy. Challengers include Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama, JT Poston and Keith Mitchell, Thomas Detry and Robert MacIntyre, as well as Billy Horschel and Tom Hoge. The mix of young talent and seasoned pros promises high-level competition.
