The 2025 World Series was one of the most thrilling in recent memory. The performances across those seven games will be remembered for years, especially those of pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Yet, the Japanese ace has remained humble despite his rise to fame.
His dominance in Games 2 and 6 against the Toronto Blue Jays alone would have cemented his place as a Dodgers star.
In those two outings, Yamamoto delivered:
- 15 innings pitched
- 9 hits allowed
- 2 earned runs
- 14 strikeouts
- 1 walk
What fans remember most, however, is his dramatic relief appearance in extra innings of Game 7, where he secured the final outs to clinch back-to-back championships and earn World Series MVP honors.
For Yamamoto, just another day at the office
Despite recording the decisive out in the championship game, Yamamoto remains grounded, according to USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto doesn’t consider himself a Dodgers legend after being named World Series MVP, believing he was simply doing his job.
Instead, the star pitcher is focused on international competition. Nightengale noted that Yamamoto “is preparing to help lead Japan to back-to-back WBC titles.”
Yamamoto’s immediate future
For now, Yamamoto has begun training for the upcoming World Baseball Classic, scheduled for March 5-17, with the goal of guiding Japan to a second consecutive championship.
Dodgers fans, however, are eager to see him back in action with the team before then. The team opens its preseason on February 21 against the Los Angeles Angels.
