The New York Yankees find themselves in a race against time that they never would have wanted. The most successful franchise in baseball has been unable to make a major signing this offseason, and even their primary target has already turned down the second offer they made. Now, many believe the front office’s attention should shift in another direction.

Cody Bellinger isn’t budging, and no agreement has been reached with the player who provided exactly what the team needed when they suffered the tough loss of Juan Soto. This is precisely the scenario that could force them to pursue a player from one of their divisional rivals.

Is it time to go all-in on Bo Bichette?

With negotiations stalled with Cody Bellinger, it would be an ideal moment to bet on Bo Bichette. At least that’s what Jon Heyman of the New York Post is analyzing regarding the Yankees‘ current situation.

“The Yankees and No. 1 target Cody Bellinger have exchanged multiple proposals but haven’t closed the gap quite enough to shut off other possibilities – either for Bellinger or the Yankees, who are now looking more seriously at superstar infielder Bo Bichette,” Heyman writes for the New York Post.

Bellinger is receiving interest from his old Cubs and Dodgers teams, among others, while the Yankees consider different major lineup enhancements, notably Bichette, who they contacted early in winter but who wasn’t mentioned publicly until last week in this space.”

Bo Bichette would fit well on a team in need of right-handed hitters, and he has become a better offensive player as the years have gone by.

One of the biggest challenges the Yankees would face if they sign Bichette is what to do with Jazz Chisholm Jr., as finding a spot for the potential new star would require a smart strategy.

We’ll see what the Yankees‘ final move ends up being. What’s certain is that Cody Bellinger is taking too long to accept the terms, and it may be time to accept that he won’t be returning.
