The Yankees are currently in second place in the American League East, behind the Blue Jays, who are in the lead with a comfortable seven-game advantage.
As if that were not enough, they have recently confirmed that their main figure, Aaron Judge, will be out for at least 10 days due to discomfort in his right elbow.
This sensitive loss comes at a critical time as the Yankees have lost competitive pace and advantage in their division, finding themselves just one game ahead of the Boston Red Sox.
What happened to the Yankees?
The New York team has lost 12 of its last 20 games, including its last three games.
Without Judge in the lineup, the team’s offense is drastically diminished, both in production and consistency.
Aaron Judge’s statistics in 2025
Aaron Judge leads multiple statistical categories in Major League Baseball, highlighting his impact on the Yankees’ offense
Until the time of his injury, he was the leader in bWAR (6.7), hits (129), slugging (.711), OPS (1.160) and OPS+ (218).
As if that were not enough, he also led the American League in runs scored (90), RBIs (85), batting average (.342), walks (85), on-base percentage (.449) and total bases (268).
The Yankees without Aaron Judge
Now, without Judge, the Yankees‘ offensive outlook is significantly weakened, as without him, the team’s batting average is .239, with a .320 OBP and a .386 SLG, which translates to a .706 OPS and an OPS+ of just 97.
These numbers are worrying because, except for the on-base percentage, all these indicators are below the MLB average
Excluding Judge‘s numbers, the Yankees have hit 131 home runs, a figure that is above the league average (118), but loses strength when analyzing other areas.
The RBIs without Judge are 430, below the MLB average (441), and the total bases accumulated is 1,342, compared to the league average of 1,414.
That is why fans of the New York team are counting the days until the return of their captain, hoping that his return will not be too late and will not have serious consequences in the process of defining positions for the postseason.
Judge’s injury does not appear to be serious, however, the elbow is clearly a problematic and unreliable area for baseball players. And, even with the early return of the Judge, the offensive limitations of the Yankees have been exposed, an area in which they will have to improve if they aspire to add a new trophy to their showcase.
