Following the death of Puerto Rican boxerPrichard Colón at 33, attention has returned to the people who stood by him after the devastating injury that ended his career.
Among them is Dania, a woman who was identified in social-media posts as Colón’s girlfriend and was reportedly close to him during his long recovery.
Colón died on August 13, 2026, almost 11 years after suffering a catastrophic brain injury during his 2015 fight against Terrel Williams in Fairfax, Virginia.
His father, Richard Colón, announced his son’s death on Facebook. The specific cause of death hasn’t been publicly disclosed.
Very little verified information is available about Dania herself. She has largely remained outside the spotlight, and there are no reliable reports detailing her age, profession, family background or current circumstances.
Her connection to Colón has mainly come from photographs and posts shared online.
Dania’s reported relationship with Colón
Dania was publicly identified as Colón’s girlfriend in social-media posts following his injury.
One widely circulated post from October 2020 showed the pair together and praised her for remaining at his side despite the dramatic changes in his life after the boxing accident.
Some reports subsequently claimed that Dania and Colón separated around 2021. However, that claim hasn’t been independently confirmed by credible sources.
There also don’t appear to be recent public statements from Dania confirming when their relationship ended or explaining what happened between them.
That uncertainty has led to speculation online, with some social-media users questioning whether she continued to be part of Colón’s life.
Others have defended her and pointed to the earlier photographs as evidence of the support she provided. Neither version should be treated as established fact without confirmation from Dania or the Colón family.
What is documented is the extraordinary tragedy that changed Colón’s life. Before the 2015 fight, he was an unbeaten prospect with a 16-0 professional record, including 13 victories by knockout.
During his bout with Williams, Colón was struck by illegal punches to the back of the head. After the fight, he became seriously ill and was taken to hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery for a brain hemorrhage. He eventually spent 221 days in a coma.
After waking, Colón required extensive assistance and remained dependent on his family for care. His mother, Nieves Meléndez, was particularly central to his long-term support, while his family continued advocating for him over the years.
The World Boxing Council later honored Colón as an honorary champion, and his story became associated with resilience and the need for greater fighter safety.
As for Dania, her role in Colón’s later years remains largely private.
Although she was publicly described as his girlfriend and photographed with him, there’s not enough verified information to say what their relationship became after 2020.
