On Sunday, the “Gypsy King” made it official with a typically blunt message on Instagram:
“2026 is that year. Return of the mac. Been away for a while but I’m back now, 37 years old and still punching. Nothing better to do than punch men in the face & get paid for it.”
The post instantly set social media alight and confirmed that Fury’s time away from the sport would be short-lived. While no opponent has been named, the announcement alone reshapes the heavyweight landscape heading into next year.
Anthony Joshua uncertainty clouds potential superfight
Naturally, attention has turned to Anthony Joshua, Fury’s longtime domestic rival. Talks between the two camps have surfaced repeatedly in recent years, with both sides previously describing negotiations as positive. However, Joshua’s future is now uncertain following a tragic car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends, strength coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif Ayodele.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, acknowledged the gravity of the situation when speaking to ITV News.
“This is an awful time for everyone involved and hopefully AJ has come out of it physically well,” Warren said. “But mentally is another issue. I don’t even know if he’ll have the appetite to fight again… only time will tell.”
Fury also paid his respects, offering a heartfelt tribute to Ghami and Ayodele and wishing them “a good bed in heaven.”
Joshua, 36, has remained largely out of the public eye since the incident. Over the weekend, he shared a quiet social media post honoring his late friends, captioned “My Brother’s Keeper,” as funerals were held in London.
