Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, recently made a cheeky reference to his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s music during the latest episode of his New Heights podcast.
In the episode, the 35-year-old NFL star and his brother, Jason Kelce, discussed their childhood experiences with R-rated movies. Travis’s recollection of watching the classic teen comedy American Pie took a fun turn when he made an unexpected connection to Taylor’s song So High School.
Travis recalled watching American Pie when he was around 10 years old.
“I remember watching American Pie-and I didn’t even realize it was rated R,” he told his brother.
He then jokingly shared how he must’ve snuck into the theater, admitting he wasn’t sure exactly how he got in.
“I might have been there with someone else’s parents,” he laughed.
Jason added that their parents were cautious about what movies they watched, but rated R comedies were less of a concern.
The Swifties connect the dots: American Pie and So High School
What fans of Swift quickly noticed, however, was the subtle nod to her song So High School. Released as part of Swift’s April 2024 album Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, the track includes the line, “I’m watching American Pie with you on a Saturday night.” Swifties immediately drew the connection between the lyric and Travis’s childhood memory, sparking excitement across social media.
The song’s lyrics, which also include the line “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” have further fueled speculation that So High School is about Travis, especially since the couple has been dating since the summer of 2023.
In the same episode, Travis didn’t directly reference the song, but fans couldn’t help but notice the overlap between the movie mentioned in both the podcast and Taylor’s song. The connection didn’t go unnoticed, with many fans expressing their excitement about the potential link.
At the Kelce Jam music festival in 2024, Travis was asked about his favorite Taylor Swift album. While he admitted a fondness for the 1989 era, he revealed his soft spot for Taylor’s new album, Tortured Poets Department.
“I might be a little biased toward The Tortured Poets Department, just a little bit,” he said, hinting at his connection to the album.
Travis has also been enjoying songs like Down Bad and loml from the album. An insider shared that Travis loves nearly every track, saying, “Why wouldn’t he?” As the couple continues to share their lives with fans, Travis and Taylor’s relationship remains a source of joy and intrigue for followers, with fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter of their story.
Whether it’s reminiscing about American Pie or teasing new music, it’s clear that Travis and Taylor are enjoying their time together-and fans are here for it every step of the way.
