As the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off in Green Bay, all eyes are on Travis Hunter, the electrifying two-way player from Colorado who’s projected to be one of the first five names called.

A generational talent, Hunter made college football history by sweeping prestigious awards on both sides of the ball, including the Bednarik Award for top defensive player and the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best receiver. He also captured the 2024 Heisman Trophy, becoming one of the sport’s most decorated athletes.

But just hours before the draft began, Hunter reminded fans that his success goes beyond the gridiron.

At a pre-draft event on Wednesday, the former Buffaloes star was asked about his academic record.

Without hesitation, he shared, “I think it was a 3.7 or 3.9,” referring to his final GPA as an anthropology major.

Hunter’s academic prowess hasn’t gone unnoticed.

He earned first-team Academic All-America honors for the second year in a row and was recently named College Sports Communicators’ Division I Academic All-American Team Member of the Year, one of the highest academic honors in collegiate sports.

That achievement placed him in elite company, joining Heisman winners Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow in that rare dual-honor category.

When asked by CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala how he’d handle the challenge of learning both offensive and defensive schemes at the NFL level, Hunter responded confidently: “It’s the only thing I ever did. Play football, go out there, study, and make sure I understand what I’m doing.”

Fans online were quick to react to the news regarding his academic achievements.

“Whoa he is smart – no wonder he can play both sides,” wrote one user.

Another chimed in, “I’d give this man an A+ for even being a Heisman candidate.”

Others speculated on his NFL fit, with comments like, “Great fit for New England” and “Jerry will love him.”

According to FanDuel, Hunter is a heavy favorite to go No. 2 overall to the Cleveland Browns.

Whether it’s Cleveland or another franchise, whichever team calls Hunter’s name is getting more than just a football phenom, they’re landing a player who thrives in every arena he enters.
