Although they are currently not favorites in the NFC East division, there’s a small light at the end of the tunnel for the Dallas Cowboys. The front office, led by Jerry Jones, is doing everything possible to ensure the team can compete against the reigning champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The mission is very difficult for the Cowboys, as it’s not just the Eagles-they now also have to contend with the Washington Commanders. But Jerry Jones and company made a major effort that has excited fans, following the trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to bring in George Pickens.
Last season, despite playing in a conservative offense with quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, Pickens caught 59 passes for 900 yards and three touchdowns. Over his time in Pittsburgh, he totaled 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Tony Romo praised the Cowboys for making the move for Pickens
The reality is that those around the Cowboys are pleased with the acquisition, as Pickens and CeeDee Lamb will form a formidable duo that could pose a serious threat to any NFL defense. One of the most important players in Cowboys history, Tony Romo, shared his opinion on the matter.
“It’s a great trade. Having him [Pickens] and CeeDee together changes the game,” Romo said during a U.S. Open qualifying event, according to Law Nation Sports. “If you remember when they had Amari [Cooper] and CeeDee Lamb together, it was really hard to focus on just one guy when you have two superstars out there. When you have two guys like that, the offense opens up a lot more. I think the Cowboys did a great job this offseason. Props to the Joneses for what they did. They needed to close the gap with the rest of the division [NFC East], and they did it-decisively.”
Another positive for the Cowboys is that George Pickens is still on his rookie contract, meaning the receiver will have to prove his worth this year in order to earn a big-money deal in the NFL.
If he doesn’t, Pickens’ value could drop significantly. But he has already shown great potential in his career-despite some behavioral concerns-so it will be exciting to watch him every weekend with the Dallas Cowboys.
