Tom Hiddleston has been back in the spotlight promoting his upcoming film The Life of Chuck, but during a recent live appearance on radio, the British actor found himself facing questions he didn’t anticipate.
The 44-year-old, who joined co-star Karen Gillan for the interview, was caught off guard when the host steered the conversation toward his famous ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
Hiddleston and Swift dated for just three months in 2016 before parting ways, with their short-lived but highly public relationship attracting intense scrutiny at the time.
The actor appeared relaxed when discussing how he spends his evenings, explaining that he often catches up on sports recaps.
“I find myself on the sports highlights. It’s football, or if there’s been a tennis championship that I’ve missed,” Hiddleston said on Heart radio. “I’ll go on to read what all these sports journalists have said about sport who write really beautifully about it. I love reading what they’ve written. It’s kind of nerdy.”
But the host quickly pivoted to a more personal subject, drawing a connection to Swift‘s recent appearance on New Heights, the podcast hosted by her current boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.
Swift had discussed both sports and her love of sourdough baking during the episode, and the radio host noted, “We did just find out Taylor Swift is a big fan of a sourdough recipe blog. Very, very specific, but I could see how you could get into that.”
The unexpected name-drop left Hiddleston momentarily frozen, his blank expression making clear his discomfort. He eventually muttered a quiet “Hmm” and nodded, before Gillan lightened the moment with a joke.
“I feel like that could be some kind of Easter egg though. Like something to do with the Super Bowl,” she quipped, referencing Swift‘s reputation for slipping cryptic clues about her projects into public appearances.
Hiddleston, keen to move away from the subject, replied dryly, “You have a deep knowledge of the NFL,” before steering the conversation back to sports.
While the radio exchange revived memories of Hiddleston‘s highly publicized relationship with Swift, both stars have long since moved on.
The actor has been engaged to British actress and playwright Zawe Ashton since 2022. The couple, who welcomed their first child in 2022, prefer to keep their relationship private and often refer to each other as “husband” and “wife,” prompting speculation that they may already have quietly married.
