Tom Brady is wasting little time putting his stamp on the Las Vegas Raiders rebuild, and his search for leadership has led him straight to the heart of the NFL’s most stable dynasty.
With another reset underway in Las Vegas, the Raiders are turning their attention to the Kansas City Chiefs – and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is set to get his chance.
The Raiders moved on from Pete Carroll after a disastrous 2025 season that ranked among the league’s worst, triggering the second head coaching search of Brady’s brief tenure as minority owner. Determined to avoid another misstep, Las Vegas has already re-entered the market with urgency.
Nagy has emerged as one of the first names to surface, with the Raiders scheduling an interview with the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator for their vacant head coaching role. The meeting is set for Thursday, January 8, marking the first formal interview of the Raiders’ process.
The move comes after owner Mark Davis publicly confirmed that Brady and general manager John Spytek will work closely together to identify the franchise’s next leader.
“Together they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization’s long-term vision and goals,” Davis said in a statement following Carroll’s dismissal just one year after his hiring.
Raiders look to Chiefs blueprint with Nagy
Nagy’s appeal is rooted in his extensive experience within the Andy Reid coaching tree. He began his NFL coaching career as an intern with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008 before joining the Chiefs in 2013, where he became a trusted offensive voice.
That résumé earned him his first head coaching opportunity with the Chicago Bears, where he won NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and led the team to two playoff appearances. However, his four-season stint ended in 2021, prompting a return to Kansas City.
Since rejoining the Chiefs, Nagy has worked as offensive coordinator, rebuilding his reputation while helping oversee one of the league’s most efficient and creative offenses. That proximity to sustained success has clearly caught the Raiders’ attention as Brady seeks stability and direction.
Competition heats up as multiple teams circle
Las Vegas is far from alone in its interest. According to reports include NFL insider Jordan Schulz, Nagy is also scheduled to interview with the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals in the coming days.
Following his Raiders meeting, Nagy will sit down with the Titans on Thursday. Tennessee fired Brian Callahan midseason after a 3-14 campaign that left the team at the bottom of the AFC South. Despite optimism entering 2025 – including the selection of Cam Ward with the first overall pick – the season unraveled quickly, prompting another organizational reset.
Nagy is also scheduled to interview with the Cardinals on Friday, January 9, after Arizona parted ways with Jonathan Gannon following three seasons.
With three franchises pursuing him and Brady’s Raiders leading the charge, Nagy’s return to the head coaching ranks appears imminent. The remaining question is not whether he’ll get another opportunity – but which team believes he is the right architect for its next rebuild.
