The New York Yankees lost both their second baseman and shortstop in less than a week due to injuries, which puts the New Yorkers’ lineup in serious trouble, but especially their infielders.

Jazz Chisholm will be out for more than a month with tears in his right oblique, while Anthony Volpe felt a crunch in his left shoulder on Saturday and is not in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees will have Pablo Reyes and Oswald Peraza in their lineup to play second base and shortstop, respectively, with veteran Jorbit Vivas on the bench behind them.

That means the Yankees should be looking for a trade player as soon as possible, and among the Bronx Bombers faithful, one player has become popular among Yankees fans on social media: Brendan Donovan.

Brendan Donovan is a professional baseball player who plays for the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball (MLB)

Donovan is currently a player for the St. Louis Cardinals and would play second base for the Bronx Bombers if they were to acquire him, according to sportingnews.com.

In the 2025 season, 28-year-old Donovan is batting .333 with three home runs, while the Cardinals are in fourth place in the National League Central Division and could be looking to trade their veteran players for prospects.

Donovan, born in Würzburg, Germany, hit .278 in 2024 and always as a starter, that would allow the Yankees to play with the hot hand at shortstop while keeping the daily spot at second base.

When Chisholm returns, he or Donovan could play third base. Donovan can also play in the corner outfield spots, and while there are more possibilities.

For now, the best option is that the Yankees should contact Donovan and the Cardinals immediately, if they do not want to see their lead, of just 2 games, as leaders of the American League East, reduced.
