Nothing is written in stone in baseball, and while many believed the Los Angeles Dodgers had a guaranteed postseason spot, that’s no longer the case. At the start of the season, Dave Roberts‘ team was seen as an unstoppable force, but as the season has progressed, the San Diego Padres have found results that, at the very least, challenge their dominance in the National League West.

Right now, we’re witnessing a race where mistakes are not an option if either team hopes to claim the division title.

A tie sets the stage for a thrilling finish in the West

Just one day after losing the division lead, the Dodgers secured an 8-2 victory, bringing their record to 74-57, identical to that of the San Diego Padres.

September will be the defining month for both teams as they battle for the division, but there’s no doubt that the next five weeks will be electrifying for both franchises. Whether they like it or not, they must closely monitor each other’s results and the gap that could emerge.

The Dodgers‘ schedule includes a notable challenge against the Philadelphia Phillies, the National League East leaders and one of the top favorites to win the World Series.

Meanwhile, the Padres need to be cautious in three key series: one this week against the Seattle Mariners, who are fighting for a postseason spot, as well as upcoming matchups against the New York Mets and the team with the best record in MLB right now, the Milwaukee Brewers.

We could be in for the most exciting finish in the West in years, especially considering the Dodgers have dominated the division since 2013, winning 11 of the last 12 seasons.
