In the American League East Division of MLB, the New York Yankees are in second place and looking to get to the top, a task that could prove really complicated for them, as the current leaders, the Toronto Blue Jays, would make a trade to get a star pitcher that would keep them away from the rest.
For now, the Bronx Bombers are four games behind the Toronto team, as the Blue Jays have 53 wins while the Pinstripes have 49. The trade simulation leaves Aaron Boone’s team on edge.
Star who would join the Blue Jays to keep the Yankees away
Even without being able to regain his 2023 All-Star level, Zac Gallen, the Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed starter, would be the missing piece in the Toronto team’s puzzle. However, he may be getting back on track just in time to function as a double-edged sword.
The first, if the trade with the Blue Jays does not go through, would be to help Arizona fight for the Playoffs or, if he leaves, to achieve enough trade value to generate a solid return in the market for the Diamondbacks. Gallen made it clear to reporters late last week that he prefers the former option.
Houston Astros would also be interested in Zac Gallen
The Astros are looking for opportunities in the trade market and they seem to have their sights set on Gallen, a pitcher who, although he has had a difficult year, could be a bargain. According to Jordan Campbell of Climbing the Tal’s Hill, the Astros could try to acquire the Arizona Diamondbacks starter.
Gallen’s situation is further complicated by the fact that he is close to freeagency, which could motivate the Diamondbacks to consider offers before losing him for nothing. Houston, known for its ability to revitalize careers, could see Gallen as a similar opportunity to Yusei Kikuchi in 2024.
