Much has been said about the possible return of Aaron Rodgers to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The veteran quarterback has not clearly stated whether he will come back for another season or if he will instead decide to hang up his cleats and go live a quieter life with his mysterious wife.
In his most recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers offered some insight into what might happen next in his career, a future that could still involve the Steelers.
It’s some of the guys that had the greatest impact on my career.”…”That would be a draw if I decided we go down that path, but again, it takes two to tango. We’ll see what happens when we get into free agency.
Rodgers said.
With those remarks, he suggested that he expects the team’s front office to make the first move, after which both sides could negotiate or renegotiate to reach the best possible agreement for everyone involved.
What is being said about Aaron Rodgers’ return to Pittsburgh
Regarding this matter, NFL insider Andrew Fillipponi offered his perspective on the situation between the veteran signal-caller and the franchise.
Our Steelers insider @jhathhorn believes the holdup between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers is money-related. That Rodgers could want a raise after last season.
Last year the quarterback signed a one-year deal worth $13.65 million, so it would not be surprising if he were now seeking a more favorable contract that would make it worthwhile for him to remain with the franchise alongside Mike McCarthy in what is shaping up to be a renewed roster.
There’s no contract offer or anything, so there’s nothing that I’m having to debate between. I’m a free agent. I’m enjoying my time with my wife and enjoying this part of the offseason.”…”I think there are conversations to be had down the line, but right now, there haven’t been any progressive conversations.
Rodgers said during The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday.
For many analysts, however, this could be the moment for Rodgers to consider retirement. At 42 years old and with noticeably reduced mobility compared with his prime years, some believe the time has come for him to step aside and allow younger players to take the spotlight while he perhaps transitions into a mentoring role.
The Pittsburgh Steelers want Aaron Rodgers to return
Recently, the team’s general manager, Omar Khan, stated that the organization still hopes Aaron Rodgers will return to the roster. At the same time, he made it clear that the franchise would prefer for the quarterback to make his decision sooner rather than waiting until just before the mandatory minicamp.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport also addressed the situation last week during the NFL Combine, offering his own update on the ongoing discussions between Rodgers and the team.
He’s had positive discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers and his old friend Mike McCarthy. Surely an answer is coming before free agency.
Time will ultimately determine what happens between both sides and whether there will be a second chapter together, or if this story will instead reach its conclusion as the veteran quarterback weighs the next step in his long and remarkable career.
