Los Angeles could be preparing another bombshell move, this time with the Cleveland Guardians.
This was revealed by Travis Rodgers of ESPN LA, the Los Angeles team would be interested in closer Emmanuel Clase and All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan, two key pieces of the Cleveland Guardians
During his program, “Travis and D-Marco Show”, Rodgers was blunt: “There is talk of a package in which Steven Kwan arrives to solve the problem in left field, and Emmanuel Clase joins as a solid option to close games.”
Who is Emmanuel Clase?
Emmanuel Clase, after an unstable start to the campaign, has recovered his level, as his numbers show:
- ERA: 2.91
- 42 strikeouts in 43.1 innings
- Elite speed and whiff rate in the 92nd percentile, according to Baseball Savant
In the midst of doubts with Tanner Scott as closer, Clase would offer an immediate and high-impact alternative for the final innings under Dave Roberts.
What team will Steven Kwan play for in 2025?
Meanwhile, Steven Kwan would be a surprise in the market, as he is under contract until 2027.
Despite not having power, his constant contact and ability to get on base make him the perfect profile to bolster a Dodgers offense that has struggled with the inconsistencies of Michael Conforto.
Kwan is much better than Conforto. You put him in left field right away, and problem solved
Possible reinforcements for the Dodgers 2025
Rodgers suggested that the package to acquire Clase and Kwan would include:
- Justin Wrobleski
- Ben Casparius
- Josue De Paula
- plus an additional prospect
However, it was quickly speculated that the Guardians might demand even more. Names like Dustin May, catcher Dalton Rushing and infielder Hyeseong Kim were mentioned as possible pieces to sweeten the deal.
Both players are under 30 and have several years of salary control, so Cleveland has no urgency to negotiate. Even so, the Dodgers have a history of aggressiveness at the trade deadline, and with Andrew Friedman at the helm, a high-caliber move cannot be ruled out.
